Harris Cooper

Dr. Harris Cooper has studied homework for more than 25 years and is widely recognized as the nation’s leading expert on the topic. He is the Hugo L. Blomquist Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience at Duke University. For six years, he was an elected member of the Board of Education in Columbia, MO, a school district serving more than 16,000 students.

His review of homework research (2006) received the 2007 Outstanding Review of Research Award from the American Educational Research Association. His research provided the evidence base for his popular guide to policy and practice, The Battle over Homework: Common Ground for Administrators, Teachers and Parents, 3d edition, 2007.

Harris’ research on homework has had an impact on schools nationwide. In addition to working directly with schools and  districts, Harris has appeared as a top expert on homework on NBC Dateline, CBS This Morning, The Oprah Winfrey Show and the Larry King Show . He is often quoted in the print media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Parents, Parenting and The American Teacher.
