Timothy Shanahan

Timothy Shanahan is Distinguished Professor of Urban Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he is director of the UIC Center for Literacy. Previously, he was director of reading for the Chicago Public Schools. Tim is author or editor of more than 200 publications, including the following books:Teaching with the Common Core Standards for the English Language ArtsEarly Childhood Literacy; Developing Literacy in Second-Language Learners; and Improving Reading Comprehension in Kindergarten through Third Grade. Tim’s research emphasizes the connections between learning to read and learning to write, literacy in the disciplines, and improvement of reading achievement. He is past president of the International Reading Association.
