What if students' behavior suddenly wasn't just your problem anymore, but their problem, too?
Behavior specialist Matt McNiffdescribes how to train students to develop the habit
of self-management. This 2-hour webinar is based in part on a presentation Matt made at the Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavior Disorders, a symposium which screens presentations rigorously for research-based practices.
Matt currently works with 9 school districts on managing behavior
problems from the elementary school to secondary school level.
You know how much more effective intrinsic motivators are in learning than extrinsic motivators. The same is true in behavior. Learn how to transfer the responsibility for students' behavior back to them so that you and your staff can spend more time teaching rather than being disciplinarians. The key goal of education, after all, is to develop self-sufficient individuals who respect the rights of others without requiring the supervision of others.
CONFERENCE TOPICS: In this 2-hour webinar, Matt McNiff discusses:
- Behaviorist and cognitive approaches to self-management
- Key ingredients for success
- What's in it for the student?
- How to make students willing participants
- How to help kids monitor, evaluate and reinforce their own behavior
- Why self-monitoring works
- How to teach students to record their own behavior and record results when cued
- How to use reinforcement effectively
Other webinar topics include:
- How to define target behavior and collect baseline data
- Giving students cues to self-monitor
- Teach groups to monitor themselves, keep track of assignments and follow rules
- How to use video to reinforce desired behavior
Participants will have plenty of time to ask questions online about areas of particular concern. Matt also will provide a list of resources for more exploration of this important subject.
