How should a teacher respond when a student mocks a peer or ridicules a classroom activity? What are the best strategies to use when a student loudly refuses to do an assigned task? How can a teacher best keep the rest of the class on track while addressing the challenges posed by one student?

Invite your teachers to listen with you while Matt coaches you through these and many other challenges. He also provides attendees with a theoretical understanding of why students defy directions.

Matt's approach is rooted in hands-on experience. He works with 9 school districts to help educators manage behavior
problems from the elementary school to secondary school level.

30 Tips and Strategies for Dealing with Rude, Defiant or Oppositional Behavior incorporates research-based theories on the stages of defiance and the use of positive reinforcement and overcorrection.

Matt also discusses love-and-logic strategies ("I like you too much to argue") and addresses research in the Kansas City school district on how teachers have used positive statements to increase classroom behavior and academic performance.
