Jay uses the following essential questions to guide the discussion:

  • What should count as "data?
  • How should Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) analyze data and plan for improvements?
  • How can we use data from diagnostic and formative assessments to guide teaching?
  • How might we use "data" as a lever for educational change?
  • How can we communicate results fairly, honestly and consistently?

Analyzing data is not just about identifying problems. This presentation focuses on identifying strengths as well. Jay shows you how to combine multiple sources of data in a "photo album" of assessment rather than relying on the "snapshot" created by a single test. He discusses how to use this photo album to guide school/district improvement efforts and adjust teaching approaches to fit individual learning styles.

CONFERENCE AGENDA:

  • Sources of achievement data
  • Professional Learning Community Protocols for analyzing achievement data
  • Using data from diagnostic and formative assessments to guide teaching
  • How to use data to provoke educational change
  • How to communicate results

Here's what participants had to say about Jay's webinar in October on Understanding by Design and Differentiated Instruction

"This was an excellent session, and I have received great feedback from both sites in our district. . . . Super job of presenting the big ideas of UBD and linking (them) to differentiation."--Andy Leathwood, Nelson BC

"It was my first webinar experience and I found it to be a very useful PD delivery model. I invited principals to join me and one brought two teachers. We all felt that this is a great cost-effective way to receive PD in our small board. ..."--Marian Lothian, Gastineau, QC

"Very informative and reaffirming for those of us who are familiar with (differentiation) and UbD."--Manuel Silva, Winnipeg, MB
